Sonny Rollins - Autumn Nocturne
I don’t think there’s a song more appropriate for Finals Week in the Fall.
We individually labor through our long and extensive solos, laden with chaotic chord changes; dynamic in solitude, as we quietly attempt to recapitulate our progressions, in a temporal space of flux between individuality and refinement. The calm temperament contradicts the muddled maelstrom of our minds, but eventually, our consciousnesses emerge from the chaos as we resolve our tensions. And then, at long last, we finally return home — within the gentle and familiar embraces of the harmonic accompaniments of our lives — in a comfortable, stable, intimate rhythm with which we are generally accustomed to.
To everyone out there still slavin’ away: there’s only one more week to go.
